True love second time around

I used to wear the original Shalimar in my early twenties but found it too strong. I was very excited to try Parfum Initial upon its release but found it didn't suit me. Something made me try it again a few months later and I am so glad that I did. I am hooked and cannot bring myself to wear anything else (sorry other perfumes filling my dressing table!). There's a soft sweetness to this version that makes it so much more wearable than the original and incredibly moreish, in my opinion. It doesn't have that overpowering heady quality either. It is simply perfection. Its creator Mr Thierry Wasser should have rose petals strewn at his feet and angels singing above!

I must confess to never liking the original Shalimar. Although undoubtedly a classic, there is a dominant note that I find overpowering and positively offputting. As I did the publicity for Shalimar Initial, which seemed to be aimed at teenage girls buying their first perfume rather women in their mid-40s like me. And then one of the Guerlain ladies in a department store gave me a sample spray… I was surprised. Very pleasantly. I kept remembering it. Then I saw Escentual’s great deal for the 60ml parfum giftset with handbag spray and I took the plunge, since the two items combined cost significantly less than buying that size of the perfume on the High Street. I now find that it has become the bottle I am picking up more than any other from my dressing table at the moment. It’s got the floral, powdery and vanilla tones that I love but it’s elegant and nuanced and not at all sickly and blowsy. Unlike most of the ‘spritz and it’s gone’ one-dimensional fashion sprays aimed at the younger end of the market, Shalimar Initial has all the classic layered sophistication of Guerlain. It reminds me of an English cottage garden early on a summer’s evening as the scent of roses and jasmine linger in the warm air. As well as this gift set being great value, I much prefer to have a handbag-size version of the perfume as the additional item rather than a body lotion. I was new to Escentual but have ordered again– very quick service, carefully packaged and first class products.

I tryed this perfume just to see what it was like, as i watched a program on tv about perfume.and the house of guerlain and how they were reworking shalimar. and I can tell you it was love at first smell wow,beautiful, so i had to buy it and it is very good value for money in this gift set.

lovely perfume

this is a fresh, light and updated version of Shalimar. It has retained the expensive and distinctive fragrance of a Guerlain perfume. It does not have the overwhelming fruitiness that sometimes comes with the modernisation of a classic. Its a fragrance suitable for any age group.
